Spring Plant Sale 2015

Well, the 2015 plant sale is over, and what a wild three days it was!

On Thursday evening, we set up the tables and got the signs in place. Many hands make light work, and the plants on the tables were already taking shape. All day Friday, volunteers spent their day sorting plants, labeling, putting plants in their proper place, pricing, helping unload the next load of plants from diggers, etc. And the snacks were yummy! Saturday morning dawned warm and bright, and the buyer’s lineup began shortly after 8 o’clock. At 8:30 the doors opened and the shopping began, with over 100 people rushing in to get first choice!

Our quality of perennials this year was absolutely superb! After much discussion, we decided to push our sale back a week this year, to the May long weekend. It worked!! In fact, I think we were lucky to have made that decision – we had a strange spring, but our plants were healthy and large. The quality was superb, and the geraniums and “Plants of the Year” made a fabulous splash of color when everyone walked in. The choice of perennials this year was wonderful, as usual. As well, there were lots of special hostas and named daylilies, and our “specials” table was chock full of unique and hard to find plants. Thanks to our generous members, we had two tables of big, strong heritage tomato plants! Do we have the best plant sale around, or what!!!

Again this year, a lovely planter was raffled off, and the lucky winner was from Kirkfield. After a quick phone call, she was on her way back to pickup her prize, and was thrilled!

This is the main fundraiser for the Omemee and District Horticultural Society, and once again it was successful. Thanks to all who helped – it takes a village to raise a plant sale!
