Junior Club Report for 2011

The Omemee and District Horticultural Society Annual August Flower Show was held on Mon. Aug. 15, 2011 at the Omemee Curling Rink.

The Junior Garden Club celebrated 65 years of Horticultural in the community, which was started in 1946 by Wesley Wilson and has met continuously.

In 2011, 25 children 10 boys and 15 girls joined the club ranging in age from 4 to 14 years. The age groups of four classes are the Sprouts, Seedlings, Buds and Bloomers. At the show there were 17 Junior Exhibitors bringing in 100 entries. All participants received money prizes for their entries.

Trevor Kennedy won the Taylor-Skuce Award for the best garden and the Jones Award for the most points in Class C (8 and 9 year olds).

Maria McQuade won the Hopkins award for the best garden and the Wilson Award for the most points in Class D (age 10 and up)

Tyler Fitch was the recipient of the Brannigan Award.

Brooke Ellins was the best beginning gardener for 2011.

Kyle Darling, Larissa Marshall, Erik Darling and Maria McQuade all won the Best in Show in their various classes.

Cecelia Darling, Rileigh Darling, Trevor Kennedy and Samantha Kennedy all won the Judges Choice for their respective classes.

Amber Gunn and Erik Darling each took home a special 65th Anniversary award for their craft honouring this special occasion.

The Junior Leaders Linda Jenkins and Heather Grassie visited 9 gardens and congratulated and thanked the children and their parents for their hard work in the gardens despite the heat and the lack of rain in July.

There were 7 children who attended the October meeting for Fall Craft Activities Wrap up. This attendance was unusually low due to conflicts with the fall activities the children are involved with.

Heather Grassie and Linda Jenkins would like to thank the following enthusiastic people who so generously shared their time and talent to support the Junior Garden club: Christa Marton, Diane Webber, Anne Luxton, and parents Nora Darling, Manon Mc Quade, Jody Marshall, Joe McQuade and teen helpers Reanna Merlin and Nicholas Rose.
