Many years ago, glaciers created geographical features in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes area. Don will be telling us about some of these features that we see regularly but may not understand how they were formed and their importance to the geography of our area.
Don Collins is a retired teacher from the Peterborough & Pineridge Board of Education where he taught Chemistry and Biology. Living in this beautiful area, Don developed a side interest in the geographical features created by the long ago glaciers in the Peterborough and Kawartha Lakes area. We are surrounded by some of these features and drive past them daily. ie drumlins, eskers, lake beds, spillways, and of course those living in the Bobcaygeon area are very familiar with their rocky ground base. A few years ago, Don created a car tour where he had the drivers experiencing these features first hand. It was this car tour that brought him to our attention.
